Essential Oils for a Healthy, Happy Holiday

I always take my favourite essential oils when I travel so I asked my colleague Maya Naik to give me her advice on which oils to include in my suitcase.

The Best Essential Oils To Support a Healthy, Happy Holiday!

There is nothing more exciting than going on a trip abroad!  You’ve waited for this all year and have been excited for weeks. There is also nothing more disappointing than falling ill or running into health challenges on your trip.  Jet lag, headaches, stomach aches, mosquito bites or catching a cold can all turn that dream trip into a big disappointment!  But, there is a way to protect your health and be prepared.

The following is a list of essential oils that will keep you healthy for a happy holiday!

Thieves- Don’t leave home without this.  Thieves is a proprietary blend of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Radiate and Rosemary essential oils. This blend can help support a healthy immune system and will help to keep the air around you cleaner too!  A drop a day under the tongue helps to help your immune system…start this routine the week before you leave and continue throughout your trip. Rub Thieves on the bottom of your feet, diffuse and wear in a diffuser pendant to keep your immune system in top shape.

Lavender- This multitasking essential oil can help calm travel stress, support sleep issues in a new time zone, provide allergy assistance and helps with a variety of skin issues from sunburns to scrapes.

Peppermint- From freshening breath to boosting energy, Peppermint essential oil is invaluable.  Deeply inhale some peppermint oil to combat jet lag and to subdue a headache. Peppermint rubbed on the back of the neck or diluted in a spray bottle and misted over the body is also very soothing when overheated.

Purification- Bed bugs be gone! Purification essential oil helps to repel insects, including mosquitos, spiders and bed bugs.  Use as a spray to disinfect your sleeping/living area and rub on the soles of your feet to repel any unwelcome pests.

DiGize- Support a healthy tummy and digestive system with DiGize essential oil.  Parasites, digestive disturbances and nausea are tamed with DiGize.  Can be taken internally, rubbed on your belly or Vita Flex points on the feet.

Conditions that the above oils will help with:

Allergies- Peppermint, Lavender

Digestive- DiGize, Peppermint

Disinfecting- Purification, Thieves

Energy- Peppermint

Flu/Cold/Cough/Sore Throat-Thieves

Immune Support- Thieves

Insomnia- Lavender

Itching- Peppermint, Lavender

Jet lag- Peppermint to stay alert, Lavender to settle down

Mosquito repellant/bites- Lavender, Purification

Motion Sickness- Peppermint and DiGize

Nausea- Peppermint, Lavender, DiGize

Parasites- DiGize, Lavender

Optional oils:

Endoflex for endocrine and hormonal balance

DragonTime or Sclaressence for balancing hormones during menses and menopause

PanAway for muscle aches and pains

RC for breathing/bronchial support

A portable or handheld diffuser will help you inhale the oils on the go.  A spray bottle and mini rollers make it easy to travel with your oils. Be sure to bring a small bottle of carrier oil with you to dilute any of the oils which may be too strong undiluted and always read the label to use essential oils properly.  If possible, ask to have your oils hand-checked instead of passing through the x-ray machine.

Get lots of rest and hydration the weeks prior to your trip. Make sure to only use the highest quality essential oils, especially when ingesting and ensure that these oils have a safe for internal consumption label if you are taking essential oils internally.  For those reasons, I only recommend Young Living Essential Oils for their top quality and safety.
