The Weight Loss Game

A couple of years ago I was running a course on Mindful Weight Loss.  A number of the people who came along had a history of losing and re-gaining weight.   They knew how to lose weight but they didn’t know how to keep it off.

As we know, if you have a laugh while you are learning you tend to remember what you have learnt. So as part of the course I developed a ‘snakes and ladders’ game to illustrate the actions you can take that boost you towards your weight loss goal and the things that stop your progress.

Climbing up the ladder towards your weight loss goal and maintaining a healthy weight is about creating a better relationship with food and developing healthy eating habits.   It is easier to lose weight if you follow these simple mindful weight loss guidelines:

  1. Only eat when you feel physically hungry
  2. Always sit down to eat, preferably at a table
  3. Eat slowly, really noticing everything about the taste, smell and texture of your food
  4. Eat without distractions.  That means no TV, no reading, no texting – just eating.
  5. Stop eating as soon as you feel satisfied – don’t wait until you feel full

Research has shown that it takes about 21 days to develop a new habit so it will be helpful to pin up these guidelines somewhere prominent so that you can remember them.
