Y is for ‘be Yourself’

It is most important to be Yourself at every stage of life. You are unique. Your experience of menopause unique.  This is not your mother’s menopause or your sister’s or you best friend’s, it is uniquely yours.

be You

be Yourself

There are a number of factors that can affect your experience of menopause.

  • Genetics. One indication of your possible experience is what happened to your mother and your close female relatives during their menopause. But remember, you only share 50% of your DNA with your mother so your experience may not be the same.
  • Diet. The diet you have had during your lifetime is likely to be very different to the diet your mother and female relatives of her age experienced. The quantity and quality of your nutrition will influence the nature of your perimenopause.
  •  Lifestyle. There are a number of lifestyle factors that have been shown to affect menopausal symptoms including; exercise, smoking, and drinking alcohol. More controversially, studies in the UK and Australia have shown that women with higher education levels and social class were less likely to experience significant menopause symptoms
  • Attitude is always an important factor in your experience of menopause.   If you have a positive attitude you will have a better experience of menopause.
  • Support: Women who perceive that they are supported at home and at work have a better experience.

Through understanding what is happening with your hormones you can make the decisions that are right for you and advocate for the best treatment.   HRT may be right for some women but, if it’s not right for you, it’s good to know that there are lots of other effective treatments that you can try.

You do not have to suffer in silence – you don’t have to suffer at all.  Take action and ENJOY your menopause
